(0:00)The 'Yo Yo Yo' Debate
[Music] unfilter yo yo yo what's up why do you always do yo yo yo I was born in 1969 that's what we did oh wow for real yo yo yo yo yo yo yo what's up wave your hands in the air like you just don't care okay sorry anyway roof the roof roof is on fire we don't need I'm just going to wait for them yeah okay I'm sh I'm going let you do your thing but in the spirit of it is being called PF on filtered top five PF
(0:46)3 Things That Annoy Your Pastor
top five things that your congregation does that just pisses you off show up late okay one miss praise and worship ah okay by showing up late okay wow don't look for information where information is supposed to be and claim nobody told you the Bible the Bible the app app the website the weekly emails the announcements the announcements the announcements can you imagine oh pastor we don't listen to your announcements so how do you expect to know we announced it we announced it we made a fce about it we sent you an email about it we put it on the app it's on the website and you still don't know it's on Instagram it's on oh my God it's on social media you know you don't want to know but it's easier to play put put the blame on me because you know PF is in pf mode so PF is not going to tell you there's something wrong with you PF is just going to be nice and say oh really oh I'm sorry I am not sorry I'm judging you I'm going to forgive you really quickly but I'm still judging you forgive you that's debatable but really yeah okay so that's three you got two more no I love my congregation perfect this is PF on filter that's the three that's the three those yeah everything else is is is I'm cool those are the three things that really tick me off being late actually if we prioritize it the the I didn't know that's the number one particularly as we have done gone to so much trouble to make information available all you need to do is just open an email that's all you don't open the email okay just service is about to end in fact now we do announcements before the Ser just just listen for a few seconds you know you download the app
(2:37)Why You Don't Read the Emails
you downloaded Candy Crush download the app you know I'm surprised that you getting like told hey Uncle it's time to stop when you're preaching it's not top top of oh absolutely not oh wow why would that bother me at all doesn't bother me what if you really in like the vibe going harm on the world you are breaking down let me rephrase that it is a necessary part of what we do to maintain order and timeliness it's important okay I get a little irritated sometimes when I feel that the people who are doing the time time time are not paying attention to the rhythm of the service because sometimes the service is the service is going by the leading of the Holy Spirit right I feel like if we are paying attention we'll be able to tell when it's the holy spirit that is is actually doing stuff so let me give an example I preach a sermon and I haven't concluded the sermon and it needs to be concluded not every seron some we can push you know but I feel like every Christian who is who has the spirit should be able to discern the flow of the spirit I don't know how to explain it but that doesn't bother me their justification saying that the time is up is just to
(3:58)Is The Holy Spirit A Timekeeper?
let you know you're going over it's not to say stop right now it's just to say FYI I can see the clock I know that the time is some people don't be looking back there cuz cuz it's so I always look back there shun and just in case you're wondering shun is one of the people that is waving her fingers and her hand saying the time is up but don't anymore I really you know I really appreciate what what they do and I try to stick within the time that we actually all agreed you know to um to keep every once in a while it is going to go over because it is necessary that we finish what we're doing 5 minutes 10 minutes I think Max 15 minutes particularly when folks after service are not going home anyway we chitchatting in the lobby in the lobby going to some Su spot or something or something yeah but that's not that that's not even on my top 25 that's what's up though I I respect I love that yeah you you should yeah I do yeah so if anyone listen to like the last episode yeah I know there was the perception of like throwing stones at the man of God when you came to wealth so we want to flip it right cuz it's a two-way street yeah you know there's leadership and then there's y true so um the individual and
(5:27)Is 'Just Enough' A Selfish Prayer?
money yeah so today we're just going to be talking about what it looks like for the Christian like a Christian that's walking with god um and money like relating to money so tun and I were talking because we were getting ready and we're just talking about our relationships with money and I was telling him that for a long time I used to think I was humble and be praying to God that God I don't want that much I just want enough for me for my family like we don't need to be fing private jets honestly as long as we can fly well like we're okay what well business class I mean business class like I'm not not economy I'm not not not first class the business class is nothing I'm just like it's a lot of money so I said in my mind I was humble that's what I'm saying I was so you see flying first class or economy as humility yeah no no no not not in the general sense I'm just saying no but enough money to be okay let's just say house take care of my kids um I'm so sorry okay is relative and that is right you're right but I'm saying to provide shelter like shelter is relative is relative one person shelter is another person's homelessness everything is Rel comfortable comfortable shelter for you shelter comfortable for me shelter um and just be able to have life experiences well nothing crazy I'm not like life experiences what you mean Cancun pun even just traveling say life say have vacations okay vacations but travel but sometimes not even more so even just educational like to be able to allow my kids go to different places to learn like what they can can they learn here H but this no exposure just exposure like cuz I know like for us when what was that thing you were saying about can't they you know I'm sorry there's intern Google it they should Google it there's difference between exposure yeah goog yeah there but but no but I thought that you know I but I basically was not very like oh my gosh I want a lot I was just like as long as I'm comfortable I'm okay um and I used to think oh you know this is this is me being humble and just asking God for enough for for me and I remember like that' be like just a prayer that I would have and one time like God I just felt God saying sh you're very selfish that is a very selfish prayer you think that you're praying this in humility but where your part is that is you just care enough for you and your family that's all you care about he's like when I bless you it's not just for you everything that I give to you is for more than just you and I had to reverse and be like Sean why are you praying this like why are you really praying for just enough for you and I was like God how then do I now say because I didn't want to be the person that's like bless me bless me like just bless me that's all I'm ask every time I come to you I want new things I want new like I want more and I was like how do I actually reconcile that like but but God is saying it's okay to ask me to bless like I can do above and even more and it's okay to ask for that like I love you and but not only just for you it's for other people and so I guess today we're going to be talking about just reconciling like each of us and our motivations which I think you did address which you you addressed really well actually in the last podcast about motivation for giving or motivation for wanting is it in Christ or is it just your selfish you know what are you motivated by right so so the the the there quite a few issues right that are involved in that conversation number one is and when I say I don't mean in order priority or in order of importance but one issue is what does enough look like
(9:30)The Cultural Standard of 'Enough'
for you as an individual and I I would go as far as saying that enough is not just relative sometimes is cultural what is enough for person a who lives in community a would be totally insufficient for person B who lives in community B who are you determines what is enough for you let me give you a classic example I come from a part of the world where people are judged you know Martin Luther King said in that I Have a Dream speech that one day uh our children will be judged by the content of their character not the color of their skin I
(10:10)Judged By Money, Not Character
come from a part of the world where people are judged not by the content of their character not by the color of their skin but by how much money they have the more money you have the more virtue is attributed to you the more money you have the more virtuous you have so having money becomes a question of how am I perceived as a good person or a bad person does that make sense yeah then the question of what is enough becomes different for that person so in in in America a guy who is earning $36,000 can you know pay his rent or pay for his double wide or what do they call it right he can take his family to yuse National Park every summer you know they'll drive down in their RV every summer and with his st6 ,000 he's got enough time to spend with his family enough time to spend with his kids and he's content he's happy for him $36,000 is enough but for a guy who grew up in Lagos Nigeria $36,000 you are nothing you are nothing let me say 36,000 na you are nothing you are not considered worthy of talking in certain circles right you are less than if you try to pack your RV in certain places you'll be sent out for that kind of person his dignity is tied to how much money he has he has to have a lot right and he will do whatever is necessary to get it even if he miss fasting for 120 days of a 365 day year because that money is what gives him any respect any kind of dignity in the community right so when God says to you I will the money that I give you is not just for you it is for others as well you know God can give you $336,000 and you still find out of that $36,000 to give others and God can give you $36,000 and it is not enough for you and that is about who you are and where you are in fact let's even talk about where you are who you are in where you are right a lot of people in my
(12:28)Achievement Over Everything
generation from my part of the world grew up under uh grew up in a system that prioritized achievement yeah over and above everything else achievement is measured by your title and your net worth if you don't have a title you are nothing if you don't have a lot of money you are nothing contentment is much harder for somebody like that whose very identity is tight to how much money he or she has and when I say identity I'm not talking about the frivolous identity I'm talking about your real your standing in the community right right right right so it doesn't matter how you got your money if money is the measure of your virtue of your dignity it doesn't matter where you get the money from that is why I can be a criminal if I have money I'm respected because money is the measure right so when we come to church right with that same mindset our approach to money is very different the guy who is coming to God content with his $36,000 right asking God for blessing is very different from the guy who his very humanity is defined by his money so who are we talking to here are we talking to the guy right who sees himself as a person first who his peers and his community see him as a person first who they don't talk to him after they have checked his bank account say it's different conversation with him and then this guy so this guy who is defined who is how do I put it who money determines how Society sees you value his yes his value is attached thank you his value is attached to his net worth the way we're going to talk to him is different so that guy whose value is attached to his netw worth you can't tell him ah Bros you got to be content you don't understand it's not about contentment it's about me being able to tell a policeman I was robbed and the policeman is going to take it seriously it's about me going to a hospital right and needing medical treatment and getting any chance of treatment it's about my kids possibly getting a decent education it's a totally different ball game for that person now this is the the the tough part we take that person out of that environment and we put him into this environment with the other people and we expec him to behave the same way as the other folks never going to happen because even the Bible says train a child in the way that he should go and when he's old he will not depart from it so where this podcast is in America we're surrounded by the folks here in America but the mindset is not American and let me be careful is not that everybody in America is content right right no no no that's not what I'm saying but the average American right sees value in himself intrinsically because when he was growing up he's you know he got he got a uh a a a certificate for participation trophies yeah yes he got participation trophies he did that stupid stick figure art his parents would stick it on the fridge right he brought his Pastor necklace and it was celebrated like like he brought something from Tiffany's so he sees
(15:45)American 'Participation Trophy' vs. Naija Discipline
value in himself he got hugs and loves and love sorry hugs and love just because yeah just because his parents would wake up and just oh just because Johnny I just love Johnny you know Johnny would misbehave and the parents would be like Johnny I really love you right I really really love you but you know you got to go on a timeout yeah this thing you did oh my God it's so beautiful piece of crap but it's so beautiful compare him to the kid who the only time he got hugs or love if at all was when he achieved if he brought home a stick figure as art he would be so thoroughly lambasted if he came anything but top three in the class by the way the ranking is public and they show everybody it's public I remember the ranking is public and then in the whole school the Assembly of all the students every morning everybody gathers at the end of the semester the top three students will be announced and the classes everybody the students will be asked to applaud that person and the last three would also be announced and they would be flogged caned in front of the rest of the school and told to be and and the students are told to tell them Shame Shame what what school was this I'm like my heart my heart yeah yes almost every school in my country up until maybe 199 something that is crazy so that child who was raised on that in that environment you bring him here and you expect him that now he's in church to approach God about money with a different perspective no no no God just becomes a means to the end and the end is the money and he needs the money right so that everybody can see that he has money and then treat him like he's a human being that is it so that conversation that thing we're talking about that you're talking about is very different for everybody so when you're say oh you want just enough to be able to have experiences and all of those things you are already starting from a level of Humanity you want enough to enjoy life I am not talking about enough to enjoy life I'm talking about enough to qualify me as a human you see the difference because literally I am nothing without money so it's not about I can take a vacation but guess what everybody has to know that I'm on vacation everybody must know because if they don't know how would they know I have enough money to afford the vacation my clothes have to have big labels right because if they don't see the labels how will they know that I'm wearing expensive clothes there's a brand of fashion um of men's clothing so expensive that I can't even it bogles the mind but you will not look at a sweater from that store and think it was $112,000 there are no markings on it there is nothing about it that says this is $112,000 until you put it on and you fill the fabric and you see the tailoring and all of that yeah yeah my people don't go there they don't go there they can't go there because who will know and if nobody knows what you are trying to achieve becomes impossible they have to know you have money right in order to respond to the money do you get the point I'm trying to make so it's a totally different conversation depending on who you're talking to and depending on where they are and if you want to have that conversation about a Christian and money the conversation should not be about money the conversation should be about who you are so that's where that conv has to start from who are you who are you in Christ in fact it's interesting that you bring this up see because when you start to talk about when you start to see yourself the way God sees you your relationship with money becomes a lot healthier right and then you can truly say that oh you know what I only just need money for experiences we start off saying that on an intellectual level you know I just need money for experience then you start to realize that you know what that experience has to be visible and what is the point of putting on social media that you went to Y national park nobody's going to respect you for what y oh y never been you have to put there that you went to what's that place mikonos what's that place in Greece everybody's going to uh um on the song sorini sorini you have to you have to put that that you have to go to Santorini then they like okay you've arrived yes we can we can talk to you now you're you're worthy of our time because you you have enough money to go to Santorini you you're a valuable member of our society now and that's why I can't address that because what am I addressing yeah you need more context yeah to piggy back on what she was saying for me I'm not necessarily so worried about people seeing me ball out but I do have a weird reaction towards abundance even personally speaking I feel weird okay perfect perfect segre um last episode you mentioned the verse that it's easier for a camel to go through the of a needid than for a rich man to ENT the kingom of Heaven the way I interpret that is impossible I don't if you guys have you seen just to put nidu the thread inside nid is difficult toless of a camel so I interpret that as it's impossible right because I feel like again when I acquire and I acquire it's almost inevitable if I'm not careful with my heart or rooted in Christ that I would probably backslide so that's my struggle I'm not too worried about people seeing me ball out I just know I have a weird thing when it comes to abundance your your struggle is not with money your struggle is who you are David said to God he said don't give me too little that I will forget you or too much that I will curse you soorry too little that I'll curse you or too much that I'll forget you right if your identity is not rooted in money the money becomes a utensil it becomes very utilitarian what will it do and when it does what it does it's done but if your identity is attached to money then you can never have enough you just can't and and that is why we see some of the corruption in some countries that we see we keep talking about the leaders but the leaders are the products of the people a leader is somebody who emerges out of a pool of people and if we consistently get our leadership wrong right it means that we are wrong something that is wrong with the way that we are producing human beings that is why every time we pick a leader no matter what he says he always turns out to be more of the same because we're picking from a pool of people that can only be what we are seeing and some people say I'm a cynic I'm not a cynic I'm just realistic I I went to school in this country all my education was in this country my formative years happened in this country I know who we are and when you take somebody from that place it's like you take a fish out of water right and you put it in water what is it going to do it's going to swim that's what fishes do yes if we want something else we need to produce something else because our leaders will always be chosen from amongst us and all of us now all of us are talking about oh we think technology is going to change us techn doesn't change us it just makes who we are more visible brings that who you already are education just helps you be a better version of yourself right and we are a people that Define ourselves by our money full stop nothing else we don't Define ourselves by our character nobody celebrates a good man nobody celebr celebrat a good man we celebrate rich men so why should I want to be good as opposed to be rich and if I am good why should I want to remain good if my goodness has not made me Rich because the goal is always richness parents celebrate the rich sibling over the good sibling schools celebrate the good the the rich students over the good student so why do I want to be anything except rich and then when I become president being rich this is the time this is the opportunity I can see all of this money I have access to it why should I not take it tell me why I should not take it so how do we unlearn that the societal conditioning or the environmental conditioning because it sounds I mean it sounds like alas this your lot so so so so so so two things number one number one where the Bible say train a child in the way that he should go and when he's old he will not depart from it America and a lot of the Western countries are very corrupt very corrupt but the corruption is a lot more under the surface they hide it a lot more and the reason why they hide it is because there is still some shame attached to Otten wealth there's still some shame and that is why you know some people hide their tax returns that is why some people you know don't want Total transparency I don't think there's any president in Nigeria or a lot of the African countries or even Middle Eastern countries that will have a problem showing their tax returns because they probably don't have tax returns or they may not have tax returns that's true and if they have it what are you going to do about it who is going to not vote for them because they stole money they will tell you anyway the point I'm trying to make is this if we want to change the individual we have to go back and look at the upbringing of the individual by the time this individual is already standing up in society we can't change him or her anymore the only way people change at a certain point in their life is if they have a very traumatic event that knocks them off course and forces them to reevaluate but on the mass level we need to go back and look at how we raise children how we we we we've raised a lot of very high achieving children so for example Nigerians are in the top echelons of every industry all over the world but have we raised people right who see themselves outside of their achievements their titles or their wealth would you say that's where the United States is better than we is better than we absolutely the United States and even Europe the European countries more than the United States they have done a great job of giving people a sense of value separate from what you produce and our own is an extreme because it's not even what you produce is money it's not that you have a factory that you're employing nobody celebrates that you're employing 200,000 people nobody cares what they care about is how much money do you have or not yeah that's all they care about so it doesn't matter how you get your money it doesn't matter that you're a businessman or a fraer oh yeah nobody cares nobody cares because if we cared and we say we care so now they arresting yaho Yahoo boys right because we care but the people who are arresting yaho yaho boys are taking the money from the yaho Yahoo boys and creating their own appearance of wealth now we're not asking them you who are a police officer and this is how much you earn all of a sudden you arresting yaho Yahoo boys and you living in a house that you have no business on your salary being able to live in nobody transer of wealth there's a difference between ya yau boys and ya ya men you understand all all not the same but but this is I think it's a little bit um I don't know if the word is scary cuz when you're saying now all we can do is change how we raise children that's where it starts from that's where it starts from so so let's start from there right because we need to change the pool when to change the pool if we want to take people out of the pool and put them in positions of leadership yeah and this is this is how I always tell my f my friends when I'm talking about I said the market woman right who is not in any leadership position why does she steal your pepper when she's selling you pepper the Palm wine Tapper why does he dilute your palm wine with water he's not in any leadership position he doesn't have a Lexus he doesn't have children in school in England he doesn't need to steal from you to to live in that is in the space he currently lives in but he has no value even though he produces an essential service he's not respected and respect Is Like Oxygen for Humanity love validation affirmation respect we all need it the need for respect right is an overriding and I use respect Loosely is an overriding need so he will dilute the Palm wine because he needs the money because he cannot stand the way you talk to him because he doesn't have money and you have money right so if we want to if we want to improve our leadership we need to improve the pool from which we're pulling leaders but let's talk about the church as long as the church preaches God as a facilitator of that process yeah then we're going to have even in the church an unhealthy relationship to money right so you come to church and they say to you God will bless you God will provide for you but all we're doing is saying to folks God will give you the money you need to have the respect you are craving so God has become a means to the same end as the corrupt guy that guy is trying to get money because he needs respect and validation you go to God to get money because you need respect and validation we have to change the dynamic it is not about the respect and validation of your PE it is about the respect and validation of God at that point money then becomes so what is God saying about money just the need changes I'm now open to hearing what God has to say to me about money the only thing I'm interested in hearing from God about money is when and how much right now that's all I'm I I I want to hear because we've already assumed that I must have the money we've already assumed it the teaching the sermon has already has already validated the point what you're saying is that it is not about Jesus is about the money right right and if they don't see the money then they don't want my Jesus once we enter that premise we can't win all we're going to do is teach people that Jesus is the way to make money Jesus is good for making money good way to make money yes because the gifts of God they make rich and had no sorrow that is we're playing in the wrong ballpack that is not God a Godly ballpark God is not about giving you money it can't be then what's the point it's easier to getting money out of God yeah is harder than writing a letter to some woman in in in Sweden because God you know he will look at you and say well you know did you pray enough did you fast enough did you worship enough did you pay your tithe you know have you given the pastor anything for his luxurious car did you contribute to his jet you know did you look at that woman lustfully did you forgive your cousin that's hard let me just write a letter and convince this Swedish woman that I love her she's 62 I am 21 and she will send me money which one is easier which one would you do write the letter or fast 200 days pray on top of the mountain all night don't sleep that's what that's what you got to do to get money from God but from that Swedish woman just tell her a few lies which one is easier the LI are easier it's easier to but but you know the gifts of God they make Rich they had no sorrow but they hard work do you know what I will deal with the sorrow later and that's what that's why people are are turning their backs on the Kingdom right because we keep pointing to the same results right we keep saying oh if you come to God you're looking for power God God will give you power God will give you celebrity God will give you Fame God will give you this God will give you that there are easier ways to get it than the ways we're telling them they can get it from God and that is the problem God did not come to give us an abundance of material things he came to give us an abundance of life we have to trust that the message of God is powerful enough on its own to bring trans to bring conversion and to bring transformation we don't need to add shiny objects to it Jesus Christ said many are called but few are chosen God is Not Looking for the crowd he's looking for the people who's who are are are are who are worried about their relationship with him that's who he came for right the people who feel that they are lost the people who are lost not the people who Jesus Christ said the Pharisees I didn't come here for you you guys feel like you're good blessed are they that hunger and thirst after righteousness for they shall be filled if they are not hungry and they are not thirsty after righteousness Christ does nothing for them so Christ isn't necessarily for the the rich no Christ is not the means to affluence okay and if all you're looking for is affluence Christ does not solve your problem and I ask that because you know you mention all the Beatitudes and I know there's one part that says blessed are those who are poor in some version say po Spirit go and check there's a version that says poor but I'm sure that who wrote that version I don't know okay but for they realize their need for God so Pro so so even the version that says PR right is a weak translation cu the translation from the vast majority of the text and the original text is who are poor in spirit that whole beatitude those sermons Matthew Chapter 5 right was talking about the state of mind or the state of Heart of somebody who Christ is the answer to Christ Christ is the answer to a man who defines himself by his worth but you cannot present Christ to that man if you validate his premise right that your value is in your net worth you've lost the battle for that man's soul you can get him into church and he will stay in church as long as he seeing results how can we talk about God in terms of results like God is some you know Genie Genie but that's what that's what that's what we do a lot of yeah that's what it is but it's it's problematic and that is why you know the question about the Christian and money right is not a simple absolutely it's not it's not simple like that because money is is a lot more than purchasing power money means different things to different people and as long as money is not utility or purchasing power we've got a problem if money is identity is money if money is as when Jesus Christ talking about how a rich man it's harder for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God Jesus Christ is not talking about money as per purchasing power he's talking about money as per identity said to that guy go and sell all that you right and he he was like oh my God no man he couldn't because his whole identity revolves around that in the money which I feel like from a vulnerable standpoint which I feel like I'm not going to say we I feel like I I my identity tends to be revolved around a lot of times around things that are external your identity you're afraid of money and so you you are not drawn to it because you see what it can do right but that is in itself problematic because when the money comes because there are certain things that just produce money you don't even have to try some things you know if you are doing certain things in due cost it will generate money then what you're basically saying is that that thing which you fear is inevitable it yes so what then is the solution stay away from money or find your true identity right I prefer the L cuz it's easier it's easier also like let me let me tell it's easier let me tell why it's easier it's easier because the process of finding your identity has only been spoken to you or defined to you in very religious terms true very aesthetic so when we talk about your identity in Christ what a lot of people here is an athetic lifestyle Christ has called you to ascetism no no no joy no fun no drink no no alcohol but Christ was throwing down the Bible now my guy I don't know the Bible some folks have read Jesus Jesus said the son of man was amongst you and you said he was a drunkard you said he was party he was paring right there was no way they going to accuse him of being a drunkard if they were if they never saw wine in front of him I can't understand that Jesus Christ will turn water into wine right and say nobody should drink wine then he's a facilitator of something he and I know that Jesus is pure he would never do anything the problem with alcohol for example is excessive consumption of it when it controls you the level that which it controls everybody is different when people hear Christ Christianity a lot of the young people they don't understand they don't know anything about Christianity they run away from it for two reasons number one the hypocrisy of the people that they call Christians fact and this generation Prides itself on authenticity fact right number two they run away because of the aesthetic lifestyle that they feel is required of them to be a true Christian and both of those things are not scriptural God does not call us to hypocrisy he doesn't and he doesn't call us to an aesthetic lifestyle he put us here for 80 years we will never experience Earth as we're experiencing it now there is some enjoyment that is baked into our existence that is required for our sanity and when you tell me that the only way to God is to live that aesthetic lifestyle then I'm just going to be you know what I'm going to take my chances and that is what we're seeing there's nowhere in the Bible that says do not be happy it says be sober be vigilant Being Sober is not the same thing as being happy it means be alert pay attention right the Bible says Paul said to Timothy a little wine for the stomach sake and people are telling me it's a different kind of wine but was that specific though to Timothy's issues maybe was that like a general so go back and look at so this is the again bad followership what does the Bible say about wine wine can be a big problem when it's consumed out of context which is usually excessively an as a a a Panacea right for other issues a crutch a a a hiding place it can become a problem and when you use it as a Panacea as a crotch you will drink it excessively see guns win Wars right and give us Justice and stable environment we need guns but guns are also what people use for crimes right we can b guns all together and we live in a lawless Society or we can teach people how to manage guns everything on this planet there's a plus and there's minus sex we all agree that sex was given by God right in the context of husband and wife but even with husband and wife sex can become a problem for real it can become a problem there's nothing that cannot become a problem anything can be taken to excess even the healthiest food somebody will tell you you cannot eat too much broccoli you can no you can't drink too much water yeah read that before you drink too much water you die of water poisoning I've read that before so what are we talking about why do we not want to deal with the issue some people are going to abuse alcohol absolutely so let's burn alcohol no and please don't get me wrong I I I misre the Bible too I understand the reason why Paul said to Timothy drink wine was because think about it in those days they didn't have all this sanitary um water works so water was a very dangerous thing to drink very dangerous seven times out of 10 the water was contaminated right with some with with sewage of some sort so water wasn't safe like that so people drank wine more than they drank water and that's why people were always getting drunk because they drank it too much so the problem wasn't that God I I wish we would not be afraid to tell people the truth and let the chips fall where they may let's tell people the truth Jesus Christ listen Jesus Christ did not promise that everybody will be a millionaire I'm telling you this if you read your Bible and everybody's a millionaire you are reading your Bible upside down but if I read press down shake it together run it over which is what we do relative for everybody exactly so so case in points the parable of the talents right everybody got a different amount of talents the Bible says as their Master thought they were able to manage he gave them x amount of talents and he knew what they could manage because he is the one who he he he raised them he trained them God made us he knows what we can manage so God may look at today and say man the way I made today man this guy if he ever earns more than 200 can a problem so God gives you 190 because he knows that he created you he knows what he gave you he says t on the other hand the way I made today 450 no problem I can give him 450 hear me out hear me out human beings look at your 190 and it's 450 and we say the 450 is better okay right so he gave the two servants different amounts of talents the Commendation at the end was exactly the same M even though they produced according to what they had been given so one had more than the other one the Commendation was not more because in the eyes of God that is not what matters what matters is what you do with what he gave you the guy who got who was uh reprimanded was the guy who did nothing with it but even if that guy had done something with it he could not have produced more than what he started with right so he got one Max he was going to do was get two because the guy who got uh five and I'm messing this up the max he could do was double it do you guys get the point and and and and that is the challenge that we have cuz when we read this thing in the Bible we miss that part so press down shaking together running over is relative it's relative to the capacity that God gave you right my my wife is the kind of person who does not memorize numbers if you give her your telephone number she does this thing and she remembers it she never has to write it down I on the other hand by the time you're getting to the seventh number I forgotten the first three God invented telephones smartphones for people like me not for people like my wife when we get to heaven is there a line for better memory you absolutely so we we we we and we set people up because we have made money the end result right so if money is the end result then that means that this guy is better or God loves him more because money is how we judge the love of God don't we see the problem with that 100% the there are two farmers one was born into a family that had an industrial Farm he's listen no matter how much re Falls yeah if he's diligent without his industrial farming and this other guy is diligent with his subsistence farming do you think there's going to be a time when this guy with the subsistence farming is going to meet up with this guy in terms of actual numbers and we all understand that so we say well relatively he's doing just as well because we're not doing an Apples to Apples comparison why is it when it comes to money we want to do always we want oranges and apples to produce the same juice it's money people never going to happen yeah yeah it's m and that's why I'm saying that we we're having this conversation totally out of context Christians should not be having this conversation because it is not about money God says your life does not consist in the abundance of material possessions the Bible says let anybody boast in this that that he knows me right let's have that conversation and let the issue of money right resolve as a consequence of that I feel like if we have the right conversations you will have the right attitude about money if we if we talk about your identity in Christ and and you develop a healthy sense of who you are in Christ your relationship with money and everything else will adjust accordingly right because you're not seeing yourself through God's eyes not through T's eyes tday is always going to look at you through the money he's always going to look at you through the money because T is operating from a fallen place so he can't help himself that is how he sees himself that is how he's going to look at you but who who when you they put you in the ground you and tund will be standing before God together and you'll be like well tund said I am not but I said you were something why didn't that matter to you wasn't it enough yeah yeah yeah that was great that was great U what we sh and I had this conversation to wrap up that that's the Hope because we know these things aren't that straightforward the hope of this kind of conversations is to be able to have people to go back home or wherever you at and maybe look inward instead of trying to say oh having money is bad not having money is good to look Inward and it to your money money is great money does B say money answered all things but you don't need all things you you actually don't need all things as I am now what am I doing with a private jet for real what am I doing in a private jet I don't like flying if I get in a private jet it's still flying right I don't like flying would you get a a a time portal like a like a time machine for what I like where I am okay what am I doing with it so you you know you can get somewhere else now if I start flying around a private jet I can get used to it and say I want a private jet but I don't think God is looking at me and saying Fe me man I want to bless you I'm going to bless you with a private jet when God wanted to bless his son he says I will be your exceedingly great reward Abraham God said I am your reward knowing me is my reward for you we don't if God said to you Fe me t you know what I'm going to be your reward you're like yeah bring the gold and bring the but but P to your point what Abraham though even though I know this is not what God meant M there was still evidence of material multiplication did you ever hear Abraham pray for a material blessing fair enough the only thing the only thing Abraham asked God for and and people always forget this was a son and Abraham didn't really ask God for a son God offered Abraham a son God said to Abraham all of this stuff is going to be yours and Abraham says oh thank you this guy born in my house the son of a slave or a servant will get stuff God said no no no no you're going to have your own son and that is where the story of Isaac started right some people might say Abraham asked God in a roundabout way but they are inferring what the scripture does not say right I mean a lot of it is is assumptions right we believe in God because of the promise right and when the mindset and the perspective should be corrected through the teachings of the church it is not corrected in fact it is taken to worse extremes where it all becomes about what are you going to do for me and if if I think I can get it easier than through you have you ever fasted for 40 days nope it's tough it's tough I've done it twice it's hard it's a hard way to get a blessing it's a hard way to get a blessing it's a hard way to get anything no food for 40 days and then there people who are doing it for 200 days 300 days 365 days 120 days shout out to demo then you tell you tell a kid out of college strongly attached to his mac and cheese that the way to get a beautiful wife is you know this God who demands 40-day fast this God who demands this aesthetic lifestyle this is the way to get it and the guy is like man and I can go and Google how to talk to a chick you have become irrelevant to him we make ourselves irrelevant by by reducing God to a dispenser of things that people can get easily when you make God about money what are you going to tell Bill Gates what are you going to tell Jeff Bezos if God is about money what are you going to tell those guys they got a boatload of it but God is relevant to them right he's relevant to them but we have made God about money so when they look at us they look at us with disdain that that look at what you're putting yourself through to get all of to get what just to have a little just to have a little money I I don't fast I don't wake up early I sleep with whoever I want and I've got what you want why should I follow your oute you say ah if God gives it to you you will have peace of mind did I tell you that I don't have you see our problem we're playing in the wrong we we're playing the wrong in the wrong ballpack so that question takes us into that ballpack right that's my interpretion of the question if I'm wrong please correct me we don't want to play no no no no God is not about your money God no when you are right with God you have a right attitude about money we good yeah oh Jesus is Lord that's a good way to end it thank you so much for listening to PF and filtered if you haven't already please subscribe to the podcast please we would also love it
